New affordable homes plan gets go-ahead in Thame

Issued 29 January 2010

Oxford Citizens Housing Association, part of the GreenSquare housing group, has been granted planning permission to build six 2-bedroom properties for affordable rent at Corporation Yard in Thame, working in partnership with South Oxfordshire District Council.

“We are really pleased that this scheme in Thame has been given the go-ahead,” says Marita Ford, GreenSquare Development Projects Manager. “Building these high-quality new homes, on a brownfield site in the town currently owned by South Oxfordshire District Council, will help meet the high demand for affordable housing in this area.

“Our consultation with local residents, including the local residents' association, has helped ensure that this industrial site is developed to the maximum benefit of both new and existing residents.

“The new development has been designed to blend with the existing terrace of Victorian houses in Park Terrace and we believe it will enhance the area.

“Parts of the site are currently used by local people for car parking and an important feature of our plans is the inclusion of nine parking spaces for existing residents, in addition to the parking to be provided for residents of the new properties.

“A start on site date has yet to be confirmed, and we understand that the District Council will be in contact with residents affected by the changes to parking provision in due course.”
