Residents celebrate their new old home!
Issued 14 May 2010

OCHA has just completed a new supported housing scheme in Witney, and, to celebrate the completion, the organisations that made this scheme possible joined residents in a housewarming event in the spring sunshine of the property’s courtyard garden.
The property is a Grade 2 listed building and has been completely refurbished throughout with rooms adapted for disabled use. In addition, on the far side of the courtyard garden, there is a one-bedroom cottage. “Its just so nice to be here” said Alan Humphries, who has just moved into the cottage and is already enjoying the gardening.
“This is a really special scheme that has taken a lot of hard work from all involved” said Andrew Smith, OCHA’s managing director, who officially opened the scheme by presenting the residents with a bench for their garden.
This property has given all the residents their first chance of independent living, as one of the resident’s parents said: “It has been a really positive change for him: a big step forward”.
The property has been leased to OCHA by Witney Town Charity and refurbished with funding from the HCA. Ridgeway is providing support services, helping residents to live independently in their new home.
